Problem

Disengagement

Nearly half of students (47%) in Gallup's 2014 student poll report being either not engaged or actively disengaged in school. The poll of 825,000 5th-12th graders shows a clear slide as children progress in school.

Traditional elementary and middle school education does not encourage innovation or problem solving, even though the professional workplace highly values those qualities.

In most schools, students focus on memorizing facts and figures. Students spend tremendous time studying the past, but very little time learning about current issues in the world.

Students have almost no input on issues that directly affect them, and they often feel that they have no voice.

The result is an educational experience that is neither engaging nor relevant.
